Artist Jieun Cheon

Jieun Cheon (b. 1995, South Korea) is a New York–based multidisciplinary artist working across drawing, sculpture, painting, printmaking, and installation. She received her MFA in Fine Arts from School of Visual Arts in 2025, and holds BFA and MFA degrees in Sculpture from Seoul National University. Her practice examines how systems of belief—religion, mythology, architecture, and imagery—shape the ways we construct and understand reality.

Her ongoing project, The Anti-Fractal Map, explores space as a layered and unstable construct formed through cultural memory and historical narratives. Drawing from sites such as Greenwood Cemetery, Trinity Church, and The Met Cloisters, she approaches these locations as systems of meaning rather than fixed places—where histories, beliefs, and spatial logics intersect and are continuously reinterpreted.

Through dense, accumulative drawing and the integration of multiple media, Cheon constructs visual fields that resist singular readings. Her works function as cognitive terrains shaped by overlapping histories, fragmented perception, and shifting relations of memory and power.

Cheon has exhibited internationally at venues including Asian Art Contemporary, Kunstraum LLC, NARS Foundation, A.I.R. Gallery, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, Paris Koh Fine Arts, and On the Fringe Gallery. She has participated in residencies at NARS International Artist Residency and Kunstraum, and will attend Vermont Studio Center in 2026 with a partial fellowship.
